Community Time Capsule
The Philippine Village Historical Site is organizing a time capsule to be buried by the historical marker as part of the commemoration. The time capsule will be scheduled to be opened in 50 years in the year 2074.
Who can contribute? Anyone of Philippine heritage—Filipinos, Filipino Americans, Indigenous Peoples, and mixed race individuals—in the United States, Philippines, and diaspora around the world are all welcome to include items in the time capsule. All contributions will be accepted as long as they are community appropriate and fit size guidelines below.
What can be included in the time capsule?
A message, letter, or poem written to your future self or your descendants
Photo(s) of something you want to be remembered by the next generation
Small artworks or objects (must be flat and/or small, no large or bulky items please)
Digital media files can be included on a USB, although we may not use the same technology in 2074!
Something you want to lay to rest (metaphorically)
Choose something that is personal and meaningful to you!
Please *do not* include anything valuable or that you want returned to you.
Items may be sent loose, wrapped, or in a sealed envelope. Please label all items with your name and date. You are welcome to personalize or decorate wrappings or envelopes. All items will then be sealed in a waterproof stainless steel container and buried for the next 50 years. (Update 9/12/24: There will also be additional above-ground storage to accommodate contributions.)
Email info@philippinevillagehistoricalsite.com with any questions.
Send time capsule contributions to Janna Añonuevo Langholz, PO Box 300146, St. Louis, MO 63130
(Include your return address, and you may also receive something in the mail!)
Soft deadline for contributions: August 31, 2024
Update 9/12/24: Contributions will be accepted until the historical marker is installed.
